Since November last year I’ve been working on a website that I’ve been really excited about but haven’t been able to talk about but now that the site is launched, I’d like to tell you a little bit about it.
Ernyit is an auction site, like other auction sites around the Internet, that let you buy and sell your own goods. Listing fees start at 10p per item and there is a fee of 6.5% (capped at £35) on everything you sell.
All very simple so far.
What makes ernyit different is that some of the proceeds of the sale go to a charity or good cause of your choice. It might be a local school, a church group, youth group, scout and guide association or a registered charity. Anyone good cause that is trying to raise money for any reason, we want them involved.
You let ernyit know the people you want to help and, if they’re not signed up already, we’ll let them know that you’re trying to get them some money and that they should sign up.
It costs the beneficiaries nothing to be a part of the site, they pay no fees to sign up or on any of the money they raise.
How much you give is up to you, if you want to give all your money to the charity, that’s fine, we just ask that a minimum of 5% from each auction goes to a good cause (you can give to as many causes as you like and split the money between them).
As well as raising money when you sell an item, you raise money when you buy an item as 2% of the amount you pay goes to the beneficiary of your choice.
In other words, if you sell an item for £100, £6.50 will go to pay for site fees, £2 will go to a beneficiary chosen by the person buying the item and anything between £5 and £91.50 will go to the beneficiaries you choose (you decide who and how much when you put the item on the site). You take whatever is left.

We are also want beneficiaries to sign up so we can raise them some money. So if you have kids at school, get their school to sign up. If you go to church, get the church to sign up. If you raise money for a local charity, get them to sign up,
