I’ve just updated the website of one of my clients. Confident Mother Doulas helps new parents or soon to be parents with the massive changes they are about to go through with their lives. It’s a really great service and one that is helping a lot of people.
The reason for the site update was to tidy up the site design a bit (there’s still a little work to be done, particularly with the logo) and provide more information about the services that are available, particularly the sale of child slings and other resources, and to provide contact information more readily (all sites should have a contact phone number and e-mail address on every page).
As well as a general tidy up, we’ve also added two areas to the site that could make a huge difference in the income the site generates.
The site owner has set up an affiliate scheme with Amazon which means that the owner will receive a small percentage of the purchase price of any books that the site links to (You can see the full list here). This is an opportunity that all website owners and blog writers should take advantage of. Recommend the books you’ve read that have helped you and get a share of the money raised. This applies to all Amazon products so it could be movies and music as well as books.
The other thing that’s been added is a page to advertise the parenting classes run by Confident Mother Doulas and allows site visitors to book a place via the website. If demand is high enough, we’ll be adding a link to a payment gateway such as SagePay in the future.
The beauty of the course booking system is that it didn’t cost a lot to add, is easy for the site owner to use and provides extra information to the site visitor and allows them to do business with the site owner rather than just look at what they do.
From my point of view, the course booking system is great in that it can be adapted to fit into any website and be used for a variety of purposes (in the coming months the exact same system is to be used in a driver training website) and the savings from using the same system (with a little adapting) on a number of sites can be passed on.
So, two small updates to a website that in the first instance allow for a bit of revenue generation and in the other gets the site working for the business rather than just advertising it.
If you know of any other company who might be interested in adding either or these to their site, I’d love to hear about them.
